Lesson 7 of 8

Vowel marks

  • about 8 minutes
  • 10-question test at the end
  • Paid

The dots and dashes that show how a word is said.

Hebrew letters are consonants. The vowels are small marks written under the letter, over it, or beside it. Books for children and learners print them; newspapers and signs leave them out. A dot inside bet, kaf and pe turns a soft sound hard: ב is v, בּ is b; כ is kh, כּ is k; פ is f, פּ is p.
